Prequalified for BørneRiget - Children's Hospital Copenhagen

Henning Larsen and COBE are hard at work on designing the children’s hospital of the future.

    • Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen is expanding, and an addition of approximately 58,000 m2 is about to become reality. The ambition is to build a first-rate hospital building that sets new standards for the treatment of children, adolescents, pregnant women and their families.

Henning Larsen Architects has joined forces with fellow Danish architects COBE to reach the shortlist for the children’s hospital of the future. Henning Larsen Architects’ hospital design specialists are therefore temporarily located at the Paper Island in Copenhagen, where COBE is housed.

Now, the team has 8 weeks to transform the vision of The Capital Region of Denmark in to a functional, comforting, and inspiring design. Henning Larsen Architects brings to project experience from another Danish hospital with a certain woman-and-child department - Ny Herlev Hospital - which will open in 2018.

Henning Larsen Architects prequalified for the competition together with sub consultants COBE, Søren Jensen Rådgivende Ingeniørfirma, Royal Haskoning DHV and Gemeinschaft.

The construction project is led by The Capital Region of Denmark, Rigshospitalet and Ole Kirk’s Foundation. The working title of the project is: BørneRiget - Children’s Hospital Copenhagen. Six teams are invited for the competition. The winner will be announced in August 2017.
