In the new extension, the quarter structure of the existing hospital is expanded but with an extended mesh network to achieve a higher degree of flexibility in terms of organisation and layout as well as larger green courtyards. The hospital logistics are strengthened and developed as the backbone of a new efficient and continuous hospital environment by introducing a structural, holistic city structure with streets, squares, parks and luxuriant courtyards.
A large “Central Park” forms the connecting link between the existing hospital and new extension. The park will constitute the natural, green centre of the entire building complex in the future. It is encircled by a ring of buildings, which will provide the framework for functions serving both the existing and new hospital.
The new emergency department features an emergency treatment service, trauma area and triage function. In addition, the building houses an intensive care unit and cardiology ward.
