Grasping the overall design concept Henning Larsen Design has created a fusion of cool Scandinavia and vibrant India. Clean surfaces, ideals of exclusivity and minimalist compositions were united with Indian colour tones, ritual ornaments and subtle outbursts of cobber.

The concept was carried out touching on space planning, design of fixed furniture, soft lighting solutions and selection of loose furniture. The kitchen, previously hidden away behind closed doors, was brought out into the restaurant and integrated in the dining experience. Here, views of traditional tandoor-ovens, fragrances of baked naan bread and sounds of king prawns cooking, fill the restaurant, stimulating all senses. Through the bar, along the low lounge arrangements and into restrooms, elegant cobber details unify all areas of the restaurant with a warm glow.

As another essential part of the assignment, a visual identity consisting of a logo, colour palette, stationery elements, packaging, uniforms, website and restaurant facade were designed. Dusty colour tones, Indian street calligraphy, explosions of pink and elegant, clean compositions mark the best of both worlds coming together. To strengthen the visual identity, a communications strategy specifying tone of voice and ways for reaching guests was also developed. With basis in Indian quotes and religious sayings, the communications strategy completes a cohesive identity.

With all design- and communication elements combined from start, GURU marks the quintessence of a holistic restaurant experience.
