King Saud University, design concept

The signage and decorations are based on an overall design concept inspired by the university's function and identity as a research centre in health science.

The colours, shapes and materials of the building design and surroundings are integrated in the graphic decorations, running in a golden, warm ornamentic sequence through the building. The function as a research institute in molecular biology, among others, has inspired the decorative grid structure with the hexagon as the central element, used in both the signage design and pictogram series.

The purpose of the graphic decorations is to screen selected areas, providing space for concentrated studies. At the same time, they serve to give the building a special identity and edge.

Two kinds of decorations have been developed by the Design Department. The two versions feature different degrees of coverage and detail to be applied as needed.
