Hospice Søndergård Wins Annual ’Building Award’

On Friday 11 November, Hospice Søndergård was presented with the ’Building Award 2011’ by the Municipality of Ballerup.

    • Hospice Søndergård is the third Danish hospice designed according to the Realdania Foundation’s principles for ’the good hospice’. The hospice comprises 14 individual rooms and is situated in Ballerup on the suburbs of Copenhagen.

Citation of Mayor Ove Dalsgaard from the award ceremony: “Hospice Søndergård is recognised for its optimal use of the site potential and for its original, poetic and highly aesthetic design. The exterior is characterised by a beautiful, simple material selection: A zinc roof, yellowish grey facade tiles and a mellow grey timber cladding on the private view terraces. The interior appears non-institutional, bright, friendly and welcoming. All in all, the building constitutes an extremely beautiful and worthy framework for its function.”

Henning Larsen won the assignment for Hospice Søndergård in an architectural competition in 2009.
