Harpa Selected as Best Performance Space

Harpa – Reykjavik Concert Hall and Conference Centre has won the award of Best Performance Space of the Year in the Travel+Leisure Design Awards 2012.

    • A six-member jury representing the world of art and architecture has selected Harpa as Best Performance Space 2012. The American travel magazine Travel+Leisure is behind the annual Design Awards which pay tribute to architecture, fashion, art and industrial design.

Michele Oka Doner, artist and member of the jury, about the Icelandic concert hall:

“Harpa evokes water in all of its grandeur—the prismatic quality of the glass reflecting ice and clouds.”

Travel+Leisure is a New York-based travel magazine. It is published 12 times a year in more than six different countries and has 4.8 million readers. In May 2011, Harpa also featured on T+L’s list World’s Coolest New Tourist Attractions.

Harpa has previously won international recognition. In 2011, the Concert Hall was selected as Building of the Year in Scandinavia by the Swedish architecture and design magazine FORM and later this year, it will be decided whether Harpa wins the Civic Trust Award 2012.
