When fully developed, Vinge will be home to approx. 12,000 inhabitants and offer a variety of educational, daycare and sports facilities. The majority of the public, cultural and recreational functions of the area will be consolidated in a continuous sequence around a new dense residential area - encouraging and facilitating use of the various facilities.
"In a Danish context, Vinge holds a unique potential. For the first time in 40 years, an entirely new town will be developed around a new train station. Thus, the assignment of the team will be to gather inspiration in Denmark and abroad, combine it with Danish building tradition and add the ambition of developing a new sustainable town", says Mayor Ole Find Jensen, Frederikssund. "Henning Larsen Architects has selected a very qualified team to solve the assignment and submitted a very convincing proposal for the development process. Thus, we look very much forward to - and expect a lot of - the collaboration."
In the months to come, the team and the Municipality of Frederikssund will together develop a brief describing how the ambitions for Vinge can be incorporated into the planning. In this phase, Frederikssund Town Council will engage in active dialogue with the architects just as the inhabitants of Frederikssund will be involved.
The planning process will run for the next 1½ years. It is expected that the construction of actual demonstration buildings will be initiated around New Year 2013/2014.
