      International Design Awards for Harpa

Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Centre has been awarded at the 2011 International Design Awards. Harpa has been recognized for its excellence in originality, creativity, excellence of execution and overall impact.

    • The Icelandic Concert Hall and Conference Centre, Harpa, has been awarded silver in the institutional category at this year’s International Design Awards (IDA). IDA was founded in 2007 by a handful of designers, thinkers and entrepreneurs and exists to recognize, celebrate and promote legendary design visionaries and to uncover emerging talent in architecture and design.

The winners of 2011 and 2012 will be celebrated at the bi-annual IDA event in Los Angeles in April 2013. Furthermore all winning projects will be featured in the annual IDA Book of Design, which will be available early next year.

Henning Larsen Architects has previously been attending the International Design Awards. Last year, the project Batumi Aquarium in Georgia was selected ‘Architecture of the Year’ and Henning Larsen Architects ‘Designer of the Year’ – the highest honor given by IDA.

Harpa has since won a number of prestigious, international awards since the inauguration in 2011. The concert hall is designed by Henning Larsen Architects in collaboration with Batteriið Architects. The spectacular south facade has been developed in collaboration with the Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson.
