Turning the First Sod of the New Herlev Hospital

On April 28th the Regional Council Chairman, Sophie Hæstrop Andersen cut the first turf for the New Hospital Herlev, together with Hospital Chief Executive, Søren Rohde.

    • New Herlev Hospital will appear as a patient-oriented, rational, and future-proof hospital. The 52,000m2 large buildings will contain a new emergency room, a carpark, and a woman-child-center with a paediatrics unit and a maternity ward.

The hospital will be located in connection with the existing Herlev Hospital and the new addition will consist of three circular buildings placed on displaced, rectangular bases. The new structure creates a range of inviting and intimate patios and courtyards. With that, the tall, right-angled geometry of the existing hospital will get a downscaled and condensed extension.

Henning Larsen Architects have furthermore designed a multi religious centre which will be embracing the different needs and religious persuasions that the many diverse patients may have. The hospital is expected to be completed in 2018.
