      Cathedral of Music: Harpa

Architizer names Harpa one of the seven best new theatres for music in the World.

    • The New York-based architectural magazine and website Architizer recently compiled a collection entitled: “Cathedrals of Music: 7 Contemporary Concert Halls Around the World”. The list highlights seven of the best new theatres for music which have become modern cultural monuments that live up to the timeless performances occurring within.

Harpa - Reykjavík Concert Hall and Conference Centre, designed by Henning Larsen Architects is featured on the exclusive list.

Harpa comprises both concert and conference facilities in a unique combination wherein all facilities can be used for both purposes. The concert hall features a diverse musical programme appealing to many different tastes, and the conference centre serves as a business hub, providing flexible facilities for international events.

In 2013 Harpa was awarded the prestigious European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture, the Mies van der Rohe Award. This was the first time the prize was given to Scandinavian architects.

Harpa has also won several other architectural awards including an Architizer Award in 2013, a LEAF Award in 2013, a Civic Trust Award in 2012, and a World Architecture Award in 2011.
