Danish Projects Honored in the States

Moesgaard Museum and Campus Kolding, both designed by Henning Larsen, have been awarded The International Architecture Award for 2015. The awards are given by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design.

    • Since 2004, The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design, together with The European Center for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies, and Metropolitan Arts Press, Ltd. have organized The International Architecture Awards. The International Architecture Award was established to honor the year’s best, most significant new building designs. This year, three Danish projects—two of which are designed by Henning Larsen Architects—were selected for the prestigious award.

Moesgaard Museum is northern Europe’s largest newly-built cultural history museum. With its sloping roofscape of grass, moss and wild flowers, the building forms a powerful visual landmark perceptible even from the sea. The museum is designed by Henning Larsen Architects in collaboration with Kristine Jensens Tegnestue.

The University of Southern Denmark’s new Campus Kolding is Denmark’s—and one of the world’s—first low-energy universities, consuming a mere 38.4 kWh/m2/year, which represents only 20-25% of the energy used by structures of similar use and size. The triangular shape of the building and its distinctive façade contribute to making the building a unique landmark in Kolding. Campus Kolding is designed by Henning Larsen Architects in collaboration with Kristine Jensens Tegnestue and Orbicon.

Both Moesgaard Museum and Campus Kolding have won numerous international architecture awards.

This year Moesgaard Museum has received an Architizer Award and the prestigious Civic Trust Award. Moesgaard Museum was even shortlisted for , among 40 other projects. Last year, the museum was awarded the distinguished In-Situ Award.

Campus Kolding recently received the Danish Aluminium Prize, the ALU Award, and last year was awarded The Municipality of Kolding's Architecture Award.
