      Frederiksbjerg School Nominated for Prestigious Canadian Award

      Frederiksbjerg School, designed by Henning Larsen in collaboration with GPP Architects, has been selected as a finalist for an AZ Award.

    • The new school in central Aarhus, Frederiksbjerg School, has been nominated for the AZ Awards hosted by the Canadian architecture magazine Azure. The school has been selected out of 813 entries from 41 countries and is one out of six finalists in its category “Commercial/Institutional Architecture over 1,000 m2”. The winner is selected by popular vote, which you can join here.

      Frederiksbjerg School is the first new-build school in central Aarhus in a hundred years. It opened in the summer of 2016. The design objective was to create an environment that invites to learning through movement and supports social interaction. Therefore, the school is designed so the pupils cannot resist to move around throughout the day. Quite the contrary, they are encouraged to run in the hallways and climb the walls.

      The AZ Awards is an initiative of Azure, a Canadian award-winning magazine with a focus on contemporary architecture and design. AZ Awards has been held annually since 2011. This year, a total of 20 different awards will be distributed between the 70 finalists.

      Frederiksbjerg School has previously been awarded School Building of the Year 2016 and Building of the Year 2016, and it is currently also nominated for a Danish Design Award.
