Frankfurt School Nominated for 2018 Sustainable Building Award

The jury for the German Sustainable Building Council recognized our building for the educational institution as “an excellent example of an open and flexible campus.”

    • Our building for the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management is nominated for the 2018 Sustainable Building award. Founded by leaders in various areas of construction and real estate, the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) aims to promote sustainable and economically efficient building.

Our design is rooted in the client’s wish to create a facility that allows exchange of knowledge and open dialogue to flow freely. Following this request, we based our design on creating a small city within a larger urban setting. The building’s diverse spatial layout promotes varied learning through informal dialogue and social interaction rather than simply within traditional classrooms.

Shining a Light on Better Learning

Natural daylight is a strong focus of our design for the school as well. A 2013 report from the World Green Building Council concluded that students achieve 5-14% higher scores and learn 20-26% faster when taught in naturally lit rooms. A spectacular skylight and displaced positioning of the five towers creates an optimal flow of natural daylight inside. Considering our focus on informal interaction and daylight, the DGNB jury writes, “The Frankfurt School of Finance & Management is an excellent example of an open and flexible campus that comprehensively takes into account aspects of ecological and social sustainability.”
