We're celebrating a double win at the 2021 International Architecture Awards
Two Henning Larsen Projects, Cockle Bay Park and the Biotope, were named winners at this year’s International Architecture Awards in the High Rise and Office Building categories respectively.
After a record-breaking number of submissions, Cockle Bay Park and the Biotope have been each awarded the International Architecture Award from a shortlist of over 450 projects. The annual awards program, which is run by The Chicago Athenaeum and The European Centre for Architecture, Art, Design and Urban Studies, recognizes the best of architecture, landscape architecture, and urban planning around world.
Cockle Bay Park, which was a winner in the Skyscraper/High Rise Category, defines a new type of high-rise development that mixes traditional retail, office, and public program into a unified, human-centered environment. Wide pedestrian paths frame a continuous public track through the development, and serve as the link between the shops, restaurants, and bars on site. The ground-level comprises 10.000sqm of park space, the most expansive addition of public space central Sydney has seen in a century.
Named winner in the office buildings category, the Biotope is the home for the municipal office of Métropole Européenne de Lille. Conceived as a ripple made of glass, light, and vegetation, these three core elements form the building blocks of the design, where abundant daylight, ventilation, and nature contribute to the wellbeing of the municipal workers of the city of Lille. The expansive network of terraced gardens, balconies, and sky bridges are the breeding grounds for over 65 species of plants species.
