  • The Shale Experience Park is on the recultivated land of a mining site near the village of Dormettingen. The project restored agricultural land and the completed park is a celebration of industrial character and contextual design.

Initially commissioned to design a small lake, the scope of design expanded to encompass the parks central area, 5000 square meters. Rather than clear the remnants of shale extraction, shale is the central feature of the park. Destinations and themes are designed to exhibit the historical context and cultural landscape of the site, forming a narrative that connects the lake, the Knock and Lake Plaza, and amphitheater used for events throughout the year.

The water of the lake is treated with soil filters and rainwater is collected from the park to replenish the lake and feed the water playground. Residents and visitors can enjoy the nature theme park year round, bringing sustainable value to both nature and visitors of the reclaimed site.
