    • Bruvin Graveyard

The Bruvin Graveyard creates a serene site for contemplation in the idyllic Norwegian countryside outside Lillehammer. Surrounded by rolling hills and steep mountain sides, the burial ground aims to create an intimate space for reflection amid the open and rugged terrain of Øyer.

  • The landscaping strategy of the graveyard had to meet the challenges of complying with upgraded standards for burial grounds while also creating a welcoming environment from a largely empty field framed by mountainous terrain.

  • Visitors to the graveyard are met by the low-lying stone wall and entrance gate enclosing the simple landscape. A central tree-lined axis cuts through the entire landscape and is punctuated by the bell tower, the graveyard’s focal point. Benches provide a moment of repose and contemplation, where visitors can look out over the countryside vistas which transforms from lush and green in the summer to a mosaic of colors in the autumn.

The bell tower and gate were designed in collaboration with RAM Architecture.
