The landscaping strategy of the graveyard had to meet the challenges of complying with upgraded standards for burial grounds while also creating a welcoming environment from a largely empty field framed by mountainous terrain.
Visitors to the graveyard are met by the low-lying stone wall and entrance gate enclosing the simple landscape. A central tree-lined axis cuts through the entire landscape and is punctuated by the bell tower, the graveyard’s focal point. Benches provide a moment of repose and contemplation, where visitors can look out over the countryside vistas which transforms from lush and green in the summer to a mosaic of colors in the autumn.
The bell tower and gate were designed in collaboration with RAM Architecture.
