As an industry, how can we take responsibility for our production chain? Can we build a building that sequesters more carbon that it takes to construct?

  • 5 Dogmas of Sustainable Design

    We are working with design principles for disassembly and the dogmas of sustainable design.

    1) Biomass in construction: incorporating renewable materials that sequesters carbon and are sourced from sustainable forestry. 

    2) Design for disassembly: simple design principles for the reuse of building component in the future.

    3) Good indoor climate: fostering an environment with good daylight levels while ensuring natural ventilation and less energy consumption.

    4) Free of toxic chemicals: creating a healthier indoor climate with minimum off-gassing and healthier production and processing.

    5) Reuse of local materials: using already produced materials, saving resources and energy

  • Designing With Impact

    The Feldballe School will generate immense carbon saving from straw-based construction, with comparable built projects using EcoCocon’s panels sequestering more carbon than is emitted throughout the entire building process.

    To confront our industry’s carbon emissions throughout the value chain, we will continue challenging our design approach and construction methods. We see these partnerships and collaborations as a blueprint for us and others in architecture, planning, and construction to break down the barriers to adopting more sustainable materials.

    The future impact of the Feldballe School project encompasses the highlighted UN Sustainable Development Goals.
