Laying of the Foundation Stone at Microsoft HQ

Friday 28 March the foundation stone was casted into the base of the new Microsoft HQ domicile at Kanalvej. The ceremony was attended by the Lord Mayer of Lyngby-Taarbæk Municipality Sofia Osmani as well as the building manager of Danica Bjarne E. Sørensen, Manager for Hoffmann Torben Bjørk Nielsen and representing Microsoft the two managers Charlotte Mark and Niels Soelberg.

    • The laying of the foundation stone is a ceremony which takes place at the beginning of the construction work. Symbolically, a capsule containing relevant facts of the building is casted into the building’s foundation. Henning Larsen Architects put a digital version of the building in the foundation capsule.

The two new 20,000 m2 Microsoft HQ offices will contain 900 employees. The buildings will spearhead the development of the flexible and dynamic workplace of the future, where the design support the employees’ individual ways of thinking, working and cooperating by means of a flexible building layout featuring state-of-the-art technologies.

Microsoft will open up the building to allow interaction with the public. For instance, the building will feature a study area for students from the near-by educational institutions. The project marks an important step in the realisation of Lyngby-Taarbæk Municipality’s visions for making Lyngby one of the leading university cities and centres of knowledge and creativity in Northern Europe.
