The project team will create a complete sketch proposal for the hospital including outdoor areas and parking. Furthermore, the team will propose a new solution for the local infrastructure. The entire project will be developed in collaboration with various user groups.
“A hospital must provide the proper surroundings for recovery and, at the same time, frame a great workspace. Therefore, it is essential to involve users and clients in the planning as soon as possible. For us as architects, a healthy dialogue gives us a better understanding of the project and of the general terms. We are looking forward to taking part in this great collaboration”, says Lars Steffensen, architect and partner at Henning Larsen Architects.
The 180,000 m2 building will provide services to a population of 450,000 from within 26 municipalities ranging from Kongsberg to Hemsedal. The hospital will be built on a beautiful site east of the Drammen city centre, southeast of Oslo.
Henning Larsen Architects is collaborating with an international team of advisers, including Link Arkitektur, Bølgeblikk Arkitekter, Multiconsult, Hjellnes Consult and Erichsen & Horgen. As a group, the team has great experience in the field of hospital planning both nationally and internationally.
The interdisciplinary team, named ”Cura”, has won the assignment ahead of six other tenderers. The criteria for the selection were qualifications, understanding of the assignment, and costs.
The building activities are expected to commence in the fall of 2017, and the new hospital is scheduled to become operational by 2022.
