Architecture Award for the Bell Tower at Enghøj Church

Yesterday, Henning Larsen's bell tower at Enghøj Church won this year’s Architecture Award in Randers, Denmark. The bell tower is a recent addition to the 21-year-old Enghøj Church, which won the same award in 2002.

    • Every other year, Randers Municipality grants the Architectural Award to projects within architecture, preservation, site plans, landscape architecture, urban open spaces and interior design, to put focus on and acknowledge good architecture in the municipality. Projects are assessed by a judging committee of architect specialist judges and members of the environmental and engineering committee.

From the judges’ assessment, the bell tower at Enghøj Church is both “daring and brilliant in its construction and dimensioning.” Moreover, the judges call the bell tower an “eye-catcher” that, with its position on the highest point in the landscape and its dramatic down-turned roof, attracts attention even from the nearby freeway.

By awarding the bell tower at Enghøj Church, Randers municipality emphasizes the church’s meaning as an architectonic piece within Danish church building.
