Town Hall Wins Scandinavian Green Roof Award

Egedal Municipality, 30 kilometers north of Copenhagen, received this year’s Scandinavian Green Roof Award for its town hall’s sustainable roof garden. The green roof garden is designed by SLA Landscape Architects and created by Malmos Landscape Gardening.

    • Mayor Willy Eliasen have received an unusual award on the behalf of the city council. Every year, the Scandinavian Green Roof Award grants and honors the best and most sustainable green roofs in Scandinavia and this year it recognized the town hall’s green roof garden. The roof garden is designed by SLA Landscape Architects.

“The green roof of Egedal Town Hall and Health Center is a good example of how we innovatively utilize nature to create both functional and astonishing qualities. We have dramatically increased the biodiversity by using a wide range of plants and trees, also improving the buildings abilities in environmental adaptation. In addition, the design adds new social spaces for employees, and encourages restitutive sense impressions for the users of the health center, giving them a good experience in natural surroundings “says Mette Skjold, CEO in SLA.

The town hall is designed by Henning Larsen Architects and is the first building in Denmark that combines the town hall with a health center. It was officially opened by Her Majesty the Queen of Denmark on the 18th of November 2014.

The prize is rewarded by The Scandinavia Green Roof Association (SGRA) – a nonprofit organization, working to promote green roofs in Scandinavia.
