Up against four international projects, Kiruna City Hall was this weekend announced winner at the 2016 LEAF Awards in London. The entry projects were judged by a leading panel of esteemed industry experts from around the world including lead designers from Zaha Hadid Architects and Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM).
The city hall, which has already been named The Crystal, will upon completion in 2018 become the city's natural gathering point, where the traditions of democracy unites with a dynamic meeting place for politics as well as social and cultural events.
The team behind Kiruna City Hall includes Henning Larsen Architects, Tema Landscape Architects Sweden, WSP Engineers Sweden and UiWE Cultural Designers.
The LEAF (Leading European Architecture Forum) Awards is an annual awards ceremony founded in 2001. It recognises innovative architectural design projects and celebrates excellence in building design on an international basis. The 2016 LEAF Awards ceremony took place on 14 October, 2016 at the Millennium Gloucester Hotel in London.
