Lillebaelt Academy Named Most Beautiful Building

Lillebaelt Academy by Henning Larsen has received this year’s award for outstanding buildings by Odense Municipality.

    • Lillebaelt Academy in the revived urban harbor area of Odense has been awarded with this year’s award for most outstanding building along with two other projects in the city. The prize is awarded annually by Odense Municipality to exceptionally good and beautiful buildings.

The new campus forms an important part of the Municipality of Odense’s vision for an urban campus that connects the city with the harbor. The campus is placed on a historically industrial site in the center of Odense, Denmark, and a number of existing buildings have been integrated in the design for the new campus.

The committee complimented the campus for the successful urban development of the historical industrial area by the harbor and for bridging the gap between the city center and the new district at the harbor.

“The existing buildings on the site have unsentimentally been transformed and put back to use. A strong communication of the building’s former use is the reason for a successful correlation with the new central building,” the committee’s statement reads.

The team behind Lillebaelt Academy includes Henning Larsen Architects, A. Enggaard, Midtconsult and SLA Landscape Architects. Lillebaelt Academy is the largest business academy in the region of Southern Denmark and has locations in the cities of Vejle and Odense. The academy offers 32 higher educational programs and houses 3000 students.
