  • We're thrilled that our Kiruna City Hall and Vejlands Kvarteret projects have been named finalists in the 2020 Architzer A+ Awards. Kiruna City Hall, named a finalist in Government + Civic Buildings Category was completed in late 2018; Vejlands Kvarteret (previously referred to as Fælledby) is named in the Unbuilt Masterplan Category. As finalists, the projects are eligible for voting in the Popular Choice category.

Kiruna City Hall is the first building to be completed as part of the £1 billion relocation of Sweden's northernmost city. The new structure forms the cultural and civic heart of Kiruna, which is being moved three kilometres east as he ground beneath it becomes increasingly unstable due to years of extensive mining. The city's story (including that of Kiruna City Hall) is currently the feature of an extensive exhibition, Kiruna Forever, at ArkDes, Sweden's national center for architecture.

Vejlands Kvarteret proposes a new model for collective living, one in which nature and urban life are tightly bound. The project, located just outside of Copenhagen's center, is to be the city's first all timber neighborhood - but not before extensive site remediation is undertaken to return the site to its natural state. FastCompany recently named the project as one of three timber projects setting the standard for timber design and construction, noting that the project marks the "tipping point of a timber revolution."

Voting for the Popular Choice Award will close on 31 July, winners will be announced 4 August 2020.
