Ósbjørn has been a key figure in Henning Larsen’s positioning in the North Atlantic market since his start with Henning Larsen in 2000. In 2013 he was appointed responsible partner and Design Director for Henning Larsen’s office in the Faroe Islands. With his unique understanding of the Nordic societies and nature, coupled with an ability to create visionary concepts, he has made an indelible mark in Iceland, the Faroe Islands, and Denmark. And throughout his time at Henning Larsen, Ósbjørn has also served as head designer in competitions for cultural projects around the world.
He works in all scales and with a special focus on cultural projects and urban planning. Most recently, he designed the new town hall for Eystur Municipality in the Faroe Islands.
From 2004 until its completion in 2011, Ósbjørn was the design director for Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Center and the master plan for the eastern part of Reykjavik Harbor. He was involved from the first conceptual sketches until the building was completed in 2011. During construction from 2008-2011, he resided in Iceland to ensure the realization of the project’s architectural qualities in the finished building. The Harpa project won the prestigious Mies Van der Rohe Award in 2013. In its statement on the award, the jury pointed to the building’s ability to capture the mythology of the Icelandic nation, which during a major economic crisis had succeeded in completing the vibrant cultural building. Harpa is open to the public and serves as a symbol of how cultural buildings can contribute to the recovery of a society following an economic collapse.
In addition to working on a range of projects in the Faroe Islands and internationally, Ósbjørn is a frequent lecturer on architectural topics and serves on the juries of architectural competitions.
