Aljohara is a partner at Henning Larsen’s studio in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. She possesses unique insight into Arabic culture, combined with a strong commitment to the architectural future of Saudi Arabia. In the years of her employment at Henning Larsen, she has worked for the realization of projects with a special balance between Scandinavian and Arabic culture. The Saudi Arabian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Riyadh, designed by architect Henning Larsen, was completed in 1984. To this day, the building’s sensitivity to local architecture is a reference project for the practice’s engagement in the Arab world and for the projects that Aljohara works with in Riyadh.
Aljohara has served as the design architect for a wide range of Henning Larsen's projects in Saudi Arabia and throughout the Middle East. In the past couple of years, she has focused her efforts primarily on business development and building networks with private- and public-sector clients. She plays a key role in finding the very partners and assignments that give the practice the opportunity to enhance, shape and support the local environment.
This interaction is evident in Henning Larsen’s master plan for the King Abdullah Financial District in Riyadh. The placement of the buildings enabled a reduction of temperatures in the extreme desert climate by up to 10°C (18°F) – propelling the emergence of an attractive new district. Modelled according to principles of a traditional Arabic city, the district also supports the idea of a public social life.
Aljohara has a special interest in promoting women’s positions in Saudi society. She is actively involved in a network that supports women’s ambitions of achieving executive positions in the private sector. She is also a member of the advisory board of the Alfaisal University Department of Engineering.
