For centuries, the Georgian village of Abastumani has drawn health-seeking travelers in search of a rejuvenating escape from the urban climate. Dry mountain air, warm thermal baths and the lush forests of the Otskhe River Valley define the village, perched on the southern slopes of the Caucasus mountains. The Agobili Hotel and Spa draws on this history of wellness, giving new modern form to longstanding local tradition. The building is comprised of two volumes: A solid plinth of public spaces embedded in the mountainside, with private rooms for visitors perched on top. The 135 rooms are clad with natural timber, deepening a sense of connection with the wooded mountains.
