Klaksvík's new center is taking form at the bottom of the fjord, where the town's two mountain sides meet. Due to the strong winds, this virtually deserted area has divided the town into two. Our design includes a central square, encircled by buildings that provide shelter from the island's infamous winds. The position of the buildings and their form are inspired by local building traditions, ensuring a calm and pleasant micro-climate in the area. The new area is divided into three zones – an urban zone with shops, cafés and a library, a green zone with recreational amenities, and a blue zone with a cultural center, maritime museum and promenade.
