  • A 19-story aluminum and glass tower set against 17th century brick, Alsik Hotel & Spa is a contemporary hotel built to serve the historic port town of Sønderborg in Southern Denmark. The stacked masses of the 190-room hotel part to reveal the historic buildings of the city center behind it, while the façade’s metal panels glow warmly in certain lights to mimic the red brick of its surroundings.

  • A lit observation deck recalls the lighthouses common in so many port cities. Alsik Hotel & Spa is a landmark in its own right while still respecting the stature of Sankt Marie Church, whose spire also punctuates the skyline. The hotel is part of architect Frank Gehry’s masterplan for the city, which will bring substantial urban and commercial activity to an industrial waterfront.

Alsik Hotel & Spa is positioned to not only become a global destination- amenities include four restaurants, terrace bar, observation deck, and 6,000 m2 of spa and event space- but a congregation point for town residents alike.

  • Interior Graphic Design

Like the smallest notes of a grand composition, the interior details within Alsik Hotel & Spa give a thorough sense of polish and character to a striking architectural gesture.

Through wayfinding design, custom signage, purpose-made pictograms and a tailor-made typeface, Henning Larsen’s graphic design team has given Alsik Hotel & Spa an exclusive visual identity sharpened down to the letter. As interior wood accents and smoky aluminum panels reference the building’s distinctive façade, Hotel Alsik balances large-scale architecture with an attention to refined detail at eye-level. From the wayfinding map in the lobby to the patterned frosted glass in the wellness center, these interior details give Alsik a stronger brand identity, while gently creating visual distinctions between the hotel and wellness facilities. For guests, Henning Larsen’s interior detailing create a striking sense of detail that turns a visit into an experience.
