Located just beyond Gothenburg’s city center, Humlestaden approaches urban planning within a natural framework. The 15.5-hectare urban plan places a broad public garden at its core, the basis for an active community of homes, commercial centers, schools, and outdoor recreational space. Our vision fuses the natural roots of the 20th-century “garden city” concept with the active urban life of Gothenburg’s Haga district, drawing on modern insights in urban planning and sustainability to shape a green urban environment.
The garden becomes Humlestaden’s social center of gravity, offering maximum local exposure to sunlight, native vegetation, and opportunities for outdoor community programming and recreation. Cafes, restaurants, a brewery museum and beer garden will rise nearby, circulating public energy around this main commons. Situated in close proximity to the Sandås forest and Änggårdsbergen nature reserve, the smell of pine and earth is never far away.
