World of Volvo is nominated for the Kasper Salin Prize

Designed for the renowned Swedish brands, Volvo Cars and Volvo Group, World of Volvo embodies Scandinavian values, emphasizing freedom of movement, access to nature, and principles of openness and inclusion.

The prize commends a recently completed building that demonstrates “high architectural quality.” Awarded annually by Sveriges Arkitekter since 1962, this year’s recognition highlights the building’s strong connection to place.

Recognized for its complex timber structure, the 22,000 m² experience center is made of glulam and cross-laminated timber, forms three striking tree-trunk-like columns, fanning out to carry the entire load of the roof - enveloping visitors in a welcoming forest-like canopy. 

"World of Volvo combines showroom, museum, parking and restaurants in a way that, unusually, does not emphasize the individual functions, but rather creates a unifying space. The architecture creates a holistic brand building that, with its location, also contributes to the city's web of spaces and places," writes the jury in their motivation.

Opened in 2024 in the heart of Gothenburg’s event district, World of Volvo lives up to its name as “a meeting place for a better future,” offering a journey through the brand’s history, innovations, and future visions, highlighted by iconic vehicles, immersive stories, and interactive displays, all centered around Volvo's human-centric and forward-looking ethos.

Other nominated projects include the visitors' pavilion in Linnaeus Garden by Hidemark & Stintzing Architects, 24 Columns in Plintsberg by Office Kersten Geers David Van Severen, and Villa Meltem by m.arkitektur.

The winner will be revealed at the Architecture Gala on April 3 at the Filadelfia convention center in Stockholm.
