      Henning Larsen Exhibits at Louisiana Museum of Modern Art

      Henning Larsen Architects, together with French Atelier Jean Nouvel and X-Architects from Dubai, have contributed to the recently opened exhibition CONTEMPORARY ARAB at Louisiana, Museum of Modern Art. In a separate room Henning Larsen will display selected projects, which offers a unique insight into the company’s work in the Middle East.

    • Henning Larsen Architects has worked with projects in the Middle East since the 60’s and they now have an office in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi-Arabia. In 1984 the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Riyadh was completed – recently followed by King Abdullah Financial District in the city in which the first buildings will be inaugurated in 2014. In the exhibition the inspiration for the company’s recent projects in the Middle East are visible.

      Karsten Ivfersen, editor of architecture at the Danish newspaper Politiken, allots the exhibition four out of six stars. Among other things he writes;

      “The best installation, which is reminiscent of the best architecture exhibition at Louisiana, is Henning Larsen Architects’ presentation of their/its projects in Saudi-Arabia. ”

      The exhibition focuses among other things on the work with the public space in an Arab context. The exhibition room consists of a spatial installation – an elastic blanket, stretched out between the walls and pulled down in two points, resulting in concave columns. The structure of the installation filters the sunlight in a play between light and shade and reproduces the role of architecture as a stage-manager of the natural light.  The installation is inspired by one of the company’s projects and mimes a quasi-covered patio.

      CONTEMPORARY ARAB is a cross-over exhibition with a main focus on the architecture of the Arab world. It mixes architecture, art, photography, documentary and film. The exhibition takes the audience to both old Yemenite civilizations and new architectural projects that relate to the desert as a place. It is a successor to the exhibition NEW NORDIC, which Louisiana showed in 2012 – the first exhibition in Louisiana’s architecture series.
