Henning Larsen announced winner of Aalborg Light Rail

Henning Larsen Architects has been announced winner of Aalborg Light Rail, Stage 2 Assessment, in a team consisting of Cowi as full-service consultant as well as transport engineer Systra and landscape architect Kristine Jensen.

    • In the evaluation report, the jury writes about the selection that the team "demonstrates a convincing grasp of the project" and presents "relevant perspectives on central challenges". The team also scores high points for its offered staff competencies.

Aalborg Light Rail is expected to be completed in 2019 and will facilitate sustainable and easily accessible transport between the city hubs such as Aalborg University and Gigantium, the new Aalborg University Hospital as well as House of Music, Nordkraft Cultural Centre and the thousands of new student residences in the city.

Aalborg Municipality, the North Denmark Region and the transport authority of North Jutland are behind the project. In 2012-13, they carried out a Stage 1 Assessment of the project - in the form of a feasibility study of stage 1 that will connect the western and eastern part of the city. The team of Cowi, Henning Larsen Architects, Systra and Kristine Jensen were also selected to complete this study.

The Stage 2 Assessment will describe the project in more detail and will form the basis for political decision on the project.

Henning Larsen has an extensive project portfolio in the Aalborg region and is currently completing City Campus Aalborg - the new school of architecture - and more than 200 new student residences on the harbour.
