Inauguration of the New Laboratory at RUC

Henning Larsen has designed the new laboratory facilities at Roskilde University, Denmark. The buildings were officially inaugurated on June 20, 2014, and, among others, University Director Peter Lauritzen, chairman of the board at RUC Christian S. Nissen and the Danish Minister for Climate, Energy and Building Rasmus Helveg Petersen took part in the ceremony.

    • The new building will be used by the Department of Environmental, Social and Spatial Change (ENSPAC) and Department of Science, Systems and Models (NSM). By joining disciplines which do not usually enter into collaboration, the building prepares the ground for interdisciplinarity, thus strengthening the overall professional competencies of both students and researchers.

“It is with great satisfaction that I am opening the stunning and modern new laboratories at RUC. The building will play a central part in the scientific research at RUC, and it will lift up the natural sciences to an international level,” Minister for Climate, Energy and Building, Rasmus Helveg Petersen, said.

“In the new laboratories, meetings between the various fields are fundamental. Many problems cannot be solved by application of only a single research discipline, but we think the new building can bring the research on cancer, diabetes and environmental pollution an important step further,” University Director Peter Lauritzen elaborated.

The laboratories will be organised around a central, research-based teaching lab, with assistant laboratories located just north of it. The offices and meeting facilities of researchers and teachers will be placed just south of the building. Thus, the possibility of knowledge-sharing between students as well as between students and teachers is optimised.
