Groundbreaking for the New School at Frederiksbjerg

The construction of the new school at Frederiksbjerg in Aarhus was initiated on Tuesday the 19th of August when hundreds of children participated in the groundbreaking ceremony with their own shovels.

    • The building will be a great environment for children and youngsters, and will comprise a school, facilities for after-school programmes and daycare facilities. The 15,000-square-meter new primary school is located in the Frederiksbjerg district of Aarhus and will replace the existing school N. J. Fjordsgade Skole.

The project puts great emphasis on the newest principles of learning and playing and is based on daylight, human scale and dynamic spatiality.

The new school in Aarhus is designed to create a sense of unity in the area and will become an attractive hub for the entire district. In addition to the school, the project will encompass a café, and a health centre, in addition to both indoor and outdoor open spaces.

The school is designed by Henning Larsen in collaboration with Hoffmann, GPP Arkitekter, Møller & Grønborg and Niras. The school of Frederiksbjerg is expected to open its doors by August 2016.
