Moesgaard Museum Opens to the Public

On Friday, October 10th, 2014, Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II presided over the official inauguration of the new Moesgaard Museum in Aarhus. The following day, the museum opened its doors, inviting the public in for the first time.

    • On Friday, October 10th, Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II officially inaugurated the new Moesgaard Museum. Seven hundred fifty invited guests participated in the inauguration ceremony, and included—among others—the Minister for Culture, Marianne Jelved and the Mayor of Aarhus, Jacob Bundsgaard. Architect and Project Manager Niels Edeltoft of Henning Larsen Architects delivered a speech praising the project and the collaboration process with Moesgaard Museum.

On Saturday, October 11th, Moesgaard Museum opened to the public, and more than 3,000 visitors brought the new museum to life. Inside, the curious visitors went exploring the new building and admiring the customised exhibitions. Outside, the mild fall weather lured guests on to the roof of the museum, where they enjoyed sunshine and a spectacular view.

The expectations for the new museum have been high, and the advanced publicity in Danish media has been massive. The landscape-like building has also resonated internationally. Financial Times and the internationally-renowned architecture and design magazines Wallpaper and Mark Magazine have published glowing articles about the museum. Locally, the building was recently awarded the Aarhus City Architecture Award.
