The winner of the award was announced Wednesday the 5th of October at a conference in Copenhagen about future learning spaces. Henning Larsen Architects received the award on behalf of the project team consisting of GPP Arkitekter, Hoffmann, Møller & Grønborg and Niras.
The jury said about the nomination of Frederiksbjerg School:
“The architecture responds to the new visions within the Danish School system. The school makes space for movement indoors as well as outdoors despite the scarce size of the site. The design inspires people to move and play.”
Frederiksbjerg School is the first new-built school located in the center of Aarhus, the second largest city in Denmark, in approximately 100 years. The school is dedicated to the youth and children of the local area. It aims to give children as well as adults an ideal environment for unfolding and learning. In the design of the building an architectural focus lies in numerous spatial qualities such as daylight and materials creating an environment that invites to learning through movement.
