Our vision for the new home for one of the university’s cornerstone programs clearly focusses on creating a building that will serve as a gateway and a clearly defined anchor for the university’s front campus. We have broken down the scale into three coherent volumes – a distinct approach that directs the curious eye into the campus while obtaining an approachable human scale.
We suggest a new park space that envelops the building giving students and faculty the opportunity of working in attractive green surroundings while a daylight infused atrium space creates great opportunities for exchange of knowledge.
The competition is part of the Kent State $ 1 billion campus transformation plan. We have teamed up with Oxford Development Co. in Pittsburgh, with KZF Design and PJ Dick. The three competing development teams include Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects, Perkins + Will and Arquitectonica.
