      Our Healthy Materials Expert Wins Major Sustainability Award

      Martha Lewis, Head of Materials and DGNB Auditor at Henning Larsen, has been selected as the winner of the 2019 Person Prize of Det Bæredygtige Element (The Sustainable Element).

    • The 2019 DBE award, an annual prize recognizing outstanding commitments to sustainability, honored Martha for her years of work in establishing sustainability-focused partnerships and initiatives spanning all sectors of the Danish building industry.

      Martha helped adapt the German DGNB sustainability certification system for implementation in Denmark, worked with Sustainable Build to establish transparency in the industry with a declaration for building materials in Denmark and collaborated with Parsons School of Design’s Healthy Materials Lab;. Martha has also been instrumental in the launch of Danish Architects Declare, an industry manifesto gathering Danish architects in recognition of the global climate and biodiversity crisis. Martha was one of three nominees for the 2019 DBE Person Prize, alongside Harpa Birgisdottir of the Danish Building Research Institute, and Pelle Munch-Petersen, also of Henning Larsen.

      The award ceremony took place Wednesday, October 30th on the main stage of the Building Green conference, an annual showcasing sustainable building products for the construction and architecture industries. InnoBYG, a Danish advocacy group for sustainable construction, hosted Building Green at Forum Copenhagen.
