Louis Becker Appointed Juror in International Competition for Songdo Library in South Korea

Louis Becker joins an international jury comprised of Robert Greenwood (Snøhetta), John Enright (SCI-Arch), Jaeyong Lim (OCA), and Eunseok Lee (Kyunghee University).

    • Louis Becker, Design Principal, brings Henning Larsen’s years of expertise in designing libraries and civic building around the world to the competition for the city of Songdo’s new library. Located 30 km southwest of Seoul, Songdo is an area of largely new development closely connected to the country’s largest airport and one of its largest ports. In an International Business District that boast smart city solutions amid streets lined with high-rises, the library presents an opportunity to strengthen the community experience and human dimension of Songdo.

“I am honored to contribute to the city’s architectural legacy and eager to continue growing Henning Larsen's profile and partnerships in the region,” says Louis Becker. The library will bolster the city's already ambitious design vision, which projects itself as sustainable city integrated within high-tech network for living and mobility.

The jury, comprised of internationally renowned architects including Robert Greenwood (Snøhetta), John Enright (SCI-Arch), Jaeyong Lim (OCA), and Eunseok Lee (Kyunghee University), will convene in February 2021 to deliberate on submitted proposals from a global mix of firms. The appointment comes on the heels of Henning Larsen’s first South Korean project, Seoul Valley, an 360,600 m2 mixed-use development directly abutting Seoul's central train station.
